I just got finished watching my very recently purchased movie Ever After (W/ Drew Barrymore and Douray Scott) which I love almost as much as my fave movie Titanic. And being the obsessed Titanic/Kate Winslet worshiper that I am, I couldn't help but think about Titanic during the movie, and I noticed a lot of similarities between the two great romances, so I complied them for your reading pleasure, enjoy!

- Both it's main stars (Kate Winslet and Drew Barrymore), are, um, how, do I say this?, ummmm.... lets say on the "cusp of chubbiness" (not that's a bad thing in any way shape or form).
ADVANTAGE: There isn't one here.

- In both films, the two main love interests are on different social/financial levels. TITANIC: Rose in 1st Class, Jack in 3rd class/steerage.
EVER AFTER: Danielle is a servant/peasant, Henry: Crown Prince of France. ADVANTAGE: They are really pretty equal here, so I'm gonna go with Titanic, just because I like Kate and Leo more.

- The story is being told by an old woman to a group of men searching for something.
TITANIC: a very old Rose telling her story to Brock Lovett and crew, who are searching for the "Heart of the Ocean".
EVER AFTER: it is Danielle's great-great, granddaughter telling her great-great grandmother's story to the Grimm brothers who are trying to find the real story about behind the "Cinderella" fairy tale.
ADVANTAGE: I'm gonna say Ever After, because it took the great-great granddaughter a little shorter to tell her story, than it did with Old Rose.

- In both movies, there are two different actresses playing the main character at different ages.
TITANIC: a 17 year old Rose (Kate Winslet), and a 100 year old ("That's right, 101 next month...") Rose (Gloria Stuart).  EVER AFTER: an 8 year old Danielle (Annie McGuire) and an 18 year old Danielle (Drew Barrymore).
ADVANTAGE: Once again there really isn't one here, but if I have to pick, I'm going with the big boat, because (once again) I like Kate more than Drew.

- Both contain at least one line of familiar dialogue, for example:
TITANIC: Rose, "You are rude and uncouth, and presumptuous, and I'm leaving now...", Jack - "I thought you were leaving", Rose - "Oh, I am. You're so annoying!  Wait a minute, I don't have to leave, this is my part of the ship, you leave!", Jack -  "Oh, well, well, well. Now who's being rude?".
EVER AFTER: Danielle - "Why do you like to irritate me so?", Henry - "Why do you always rise to the occasion?".
ADVANTAGE: Hmmmm, this a close one. I guess I would say Ever After, because in the end, the male love did not die, (although it was a very heroic death for his love...).

- In both movies, one of the people are turned down in someway, leaving one or both of them distraught.
TITANIC: In a gym, Rose - "I'm going back, leave me alone.", and she walks off in tears leaving Jack about to cry, biting his lip.
EVER AFTER: At a masque, Danielle - "Henry, please!", Henry - "How dare you address me so informal madame!", and he storms off leaving a hysterical Danielle to run off seconds later in tears and humiliation.
ADVANTAGE : Definitely Titanic, Jack was not hurt and humiliated in front of the entire kingdom, just a couple of rowing machines.

- And finally, both movies end happily ever after.
TITANIC: Rose and Jack are  reunited in heaven after 84 years apart, and live happily ever after.
EVER AFTER: Danielle and Henry are  reunited after 1 day, and they get married and live happily ever after.
ADVANTAGE: Without a doubt, Ever After. 1 Day is just a little bit shorter than 84 years, don't ya think?

- In both of the films one of the main characters, saves the other's life. TITANIC: Jack coaxes Rose off of the stern, where she was going to commit suicide. Rose, "I wanted to thank you for what you did, not just for pulling me back, but for your discretion".
EVER AFTER: Danielle rescues Henry from the band of gypsies who were going to beat/rob him. Henry, "You saved my life back there, in the woods".
ADVANTAGE: I'm saying Titanic, because if Jack hadn't saved her, she would have died, while Henry would have been a bruised, and with a little less clothing....

- Both movies, one of the pair is handcuffed at one point in time.
TITANIC: Jack in the Sergeant of Arms, office/room, handcuffed to a pole/pipe. EVER AFTER: Danielle, after she was bought by Pierre Le Peu, her ankles were in shackles.
ADVANTAGE: Ever After, because, Jack's room was filling very fast with freezing cold water, and Danielle was in a nice, big dry room.

- Both females have mean, horrible, controlling, and obnoxious mothers who are greatly in debt.
TITANIC: Rose's mother Ruth DeWitt Bukator.
EVER AFTER: Danielle's step-mother Baroness Rodmilla deGent
ADVANTAGE: I think they were pretty equally mean....

- On the topic of mean moms, they both moms both tried to keep their daughter/stepdaughter away from the one they truly loved, once they found out about their affairs.
TITANIC: Ruth tried to keep Rose away from Jack.
EVER AFTER: Baroness Rodmilla tried to keep Danielle away from Henry, ha!
ADVANTAGE: I think Titanic, because what the Baroness did was just plain evil!

- And in both of the films, one of them was being forced to marry someone they didn't love before they met their true love. TITANIC: Rose was engaged to the horrible (not to mention filthy rich) Cal Hockley (ick!).
EVER AFTER: Henry was being forced to marry the Princess of Spain.
ADVANTAGE: Ever After definitely, a Spanish princess is better than Cal, on any day of the week.

- At some point in time each movie, one of the main character's is being carried off unwillingly by two men.
TITANIC: Jack, when he is accused of trying to steal the Heart of the Ocean. Jack, "You know I didn't do this Rose!, you know it! You know me!".
EVER AFTER: Danielle is carried off after she is sold to Pierre Le Peu. Danielle, "Noooo! No! Nooooo!!!".
ADVANTAGE: Titanic, Jack's yelling wasn't as heart wrenching as Danielle's, so maybe she was supposedly going to suffer more...

- Also,  both of the movies, both of the main characters get soaked, several times.
TITANIC: Obviously, Jack and Rose get soaked in the ocean nut also when they are still on the ship, and it's sinking.
EVER AFTER: Both Henry and Danielle, get soaked in the pouring rain, and they go swimming in the lake (well, she does, and he later goes in after her).
ADVANTAGE: The water in Ever After was a heck of a lot warmer than in the North Atlantic....

- Finally, in the last scenes in both movies where they show they main characters together, they are both embracing and kissing each other.
TITANIC: At the top of the grand staircase, during Rose and Jack's post-mortem reunion in heaven.
EVER AFTER: In front of a window in their enormous castle, is where we find our Prince and Princess.
ADVANTAGE: There is none, because they both end happily ever after. : )

- EXTRA : I also spotted two other things, as well. Kate Winslet's Co-star in Heavenly Creatures, Melanie Lynskey, is the good step-sister Jaquline DeGent in Ever After. And the young actress Annie McGuire who plays the younger Danielle in Ever After, bears a very un-cannylike resemblance to Kate's Hideous Kinky Co-star, Bella Riza (who in the movie, plays her oldest daughter Bea).

THE END
